Use caution and be prepared...
With hurricane season underway, be sure that your family disaster plan is in order and be prepared to shelter in place. If called upon to do so by local emergency managers, the Red Cross is prepared to open shelters around the Cape and on the Islands.  Local volunteers are on standby. Always listen to the local radio (battery operated if need be) for announcements. Note, if the power goes out, do not use candles. Use flashlights only.
The Red Cross, always behind the scenes...

In the past months, volunteers of the Cape Cod and Islands Chapter assisted victims of house fires in Hyannis, Harwich, Falmouth and Brewster and more with temporary lodging, clothes, food and counseling. We supported emergency personnel on the scene with coffee, food at these fires as well as we were at the scene right after an oil spill in Harwich and an airplane crash in Hyannis.

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. The Cape Cod and Islands Chapter receives  no government support for disaster relief services.

You can help the victims of disasters locally by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Local Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of disaster.

Contributions to the Cape Cod and Islands Disaster Relief Fund may be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter at 286 South Street, Hyannis, MA 02601. Tel. (508) 775-1540. Or make a secure donation by clicking the donate now button. Thank you!

The American Red Cross

The Red Cross is a critical part of the emergency response network on Cape Cod and the Islands.  Our volunteers respond, teach, and care for our community when the need is greatest 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We are expected to be ready at all times. We are here when help is needed most.

A recent quote:  “I would like to thank you and all the volunteers who responded to the diving incident to supply refreshments and food at Middle Pond in Marstons Mills.  Their two days of sitting in the hot sun was truly appreciated by all those members they supported at the scene to keep them hydrated“.  --  John M. Harrington, Fire Chief, COMM Fire District
